Dagmar Freist
Dagmar Freist is Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Oldenburg. She studied and obtained her doctorate at the University of Cambridge, England, and was subsequently a research assistant at the DHI London. In 2003 she habilitated at the University of Osnabrück. In 2004 she was appointed to the University of Oldenburg. Dagmar Freist is head of the "Prize Papers" project, which is sponsored by the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen. Her research focuses on political culture and the public sphere, religious pluralization, migration and globalization. She is currently Dean of the Faculty IV Human and Social Sciences at the University of Oldenburg. In 2019, she was elected Chair of the Academic Advisory Board of the German Historical Institute (DHI) London, and her research and teaching interests include global micro-history, diasporas, practices of religious coexistence, state-building and the legitimation of power, the emergence of the public sphere, micro-history, historical practice, and research on subjectivation.
