Karen Ellwanger

Karen Ellwanger was professor for history and theory of material culture (cultural history of European textiles) at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and director of the Institute for Material Culture.

Her research focused on the theory and history of material culture, museums and exhibitions, clothing and body images in modernity/countermodernity; Costume, vestimentary representations of politics as well as memory and gender.

She is retired.
