Adelheid Wessler is Head of the Team Societal Transformations, responsible for ancient and non-European languages and cultures as well as (European) ethnology. Previously supervised collection-related research projects at museums as well as cooperation projects between Africa and Germany.

She studied ethnology, sociology and political science in Bonn and Cologne and completed a doctorate on "Museal Representations of the Self and the Other in the (De-) Colonisation Process of Namibia". Longer research stays in Bolivia and Namibia, among others, and collaboration in various (international) exhibition projects. Professional stations include the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover and the University of Cologne.
