Alexander Freiherr von Hammerstein-Gesmold diente als Oberleutnant im 2. berittenem Feldregiment der „Schutztruppe für Südwestafrika“ im Krieg gegen die Herero in der Kolonie Deutsch-Südwestafrika, dem heutigen Namibia. Das Objekt ist somit in Zusammenhang mit Krieg und Genozid zu bringen.
