Workshop “Perspectives of Transnational Provenance Research in Ethnographic Collections in Germany”
14.09.-15.09.2019
From 14 to 15 September 2019, the PAESE joint project in cooperation with the German Lost Art Foundation conducted the workshop "Transnational Provenance Research in Ethnographic Collections in Germany" at the Landesmuseum Hannover. The aim of the workshop was on the one hand to network various projects on postcolonial provenance research in collections in Germany and on the other hand - and above all - research fellows from the countries of origin of the objects. The starting point was that provenance research should be carried out in close cooperation between the various actors involved. This made it possible to bring together actors from Cameroon, Gabon, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Papua New Guinea with representatives of collections in Basel, Berlin, Braunschweig, Bremen, Göttingen, Hamburg, Hanover, Hildesheim, Lübeck, Oldenburg and Stuttgart. In addition, various actors in the German research landscape were profitably involved (Bund-Länder AG, Museumsbund, DZK, Netzwerk Provenienzforschung in Niedersachsen, AG Koloniale Provenienzen).
