Katja Lembke
Katja Lembke studied Classical Archaeology, Egyptology and Latin Language in Heidelberg, Rome, Munich and Tübingen. In 1992 she received her doctor’s degree with a study on the most important sanctuary of Egyptian gods outside of Egypt, the Iseum Campense in Rome (supervisors: Prof. Dr. Tonio Hölscher, Prof. Dr. Jan Assmann). Her thesis won the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute.
Between 1994 and 2004 Katja Lembke worked for the Egyptian Museum Berlin and conducted several research projects in Syria and Egypt.
Since 2003 she has been a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute, since 2004 head of the research project “The necropolis of Petosiris in Hermopolis/Tuna el-Gebel” (sponsored by DFG, DAAD and VolkswagenStiftung).
From 2005 until 2011 she was head of the Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum Hildesheim, in 2011 she became director of the Landesmuseum Hannover.
Since 2015 she has been honorary professor at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.
Apart from her duties in museum and at university Katja Lembke is involved in several voluntary activities concerning research, museums and church.Since 2018 she has been speaker of PAESE, the joint research project initiated by the Landesmuseum Hannover and funded by the VolkswagenStiftung (in cooperation with Leibniz-Universität Hannover, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Landesmuseum für Natur und Mensch Oldenburg, Städtisches Museum Braunschweig, Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum Hildesheim, Evangelical-Lutheran Mission of Lower-Saxony).
